Kikoman joins the Gluten Free craze

Kikoman joins the Gluten Free craze

Back in the day, there was no gluten free soy sauce. La Choy was sometimes safe and other times not. They went back and forth adding wheat, not adding wheat. I nicknamed soy sauce as “liquid wheat”. And then, La Choy realized gluten free was not that hard. Many years later, Kikoman agrees! No need to special order tamari sauce or skip the soy sauce. Now, Kikoman and La Choy both deliver gluten free. Available in a super market near you.

Horrah for fans of Sweet Potato Fries

Horrah for fans of Sweet Potato Fries

On a recent outing to Sam’s in Oklahoma City, I was delighted to find Sweet Potato Fries in their frozen food department. I occasionally look at their frozen foods despite the fact that so few are gluten free. However, this time, I was not disappointed. This is what I found:

And, to my delight, when I flipped the bag over, it said “gluten free”.

Product labeling and marketing have come such a long way over the past 15 years! It’s still exciting to me to find a clearly labeled gluten free product.

The preparation is simple: you can bake at 450 degrees for 16-18 minutes or deep fry, your choice. We baked ours and they were delicious! What a great find!

Rice Krispies go Gluten Free!

Rice Krispies go Gluten Free!

Finally, the companies get it!  Kelloggs has announced that starting in June, 2011, Rice Krispies will be available gluten free.  In its press release, Kelloggs noted that after hearing from so many gluten free families, they are happy to bring us gluten free Rice Krispies. Now, that’s the power of the gluten free consumer. Kudos to us.

Stock up and enjoy!

Soy Light Chocolate Milk is the bomb!

Soy Light Chocolate Milk is the bomb!

My new favorite kick is Soy Light Chocolate Milk.  It’s 100% lactose and dairy free, as well as gluten free.  Since going dairy free, it’s been hard to fix my chocolate craving.  This does the trick!  It’s rich and creamy and only 90 calories (which equals 3 weight watchers points, for those counting).  I buy it at my local grocery store.  It’s great first thing in the morning, as a snack and after a hard work out.  Heck, it’s great anytime!

Simply the bomb
